iOS 16, iOS 16 new features, iOS 16 update, iPhone 14

In June this year, Apple unveiled the latest version of its mobile operating system – iOS 16 at WWDC 2022. If we look at previous Apple versions, it is likely that iOS 16 will be released alongside iPhone 14.

By introducing a lot of new features and improving existing ones, iOS 16 is definitely one of the most important updates ever. Here, we will take a quick look at some of the new features that iOS 16 is expected to bring.

Lockscreen redesign

Starting with the lock screen, Apple has completely redesigned the iOS lock screen and now allows users to customize it according to their preferences. It is said that iOS 16 will also borrow the ‘Always-On display’ feature from Android, but it may be limited to the iPhone 14 Pro variants.

The lock screen now supports widgets integrated with wallpapers and displays information such as missed calls and upcoming alerts.

Also, notifications will display from the bottom of the screen and allow users to choose between stacking, counting, and viewing the expanded list by pressing the lock screen.

Focus Food

Introduced with iOS 15, Apple is making some changes to Focus Mode. Now linked to the revamped lock screen, there are now several ways to activate Focus Mode, such as from the Control Center or by automating the process.

An important addition to the focus mode are the focus filters. Allows users to view only relevant content in system apps such as Mail, Messages, Safari, and Calendar.

Unsend and edit sent messages

You can now edit or undo a sent message up to 15 minutes after it has been sent. Also, users can now recover recently deleted messages (up to 30 days) and mark conversations as unread.

Apple Map and CarPlay updates

Apple has also made major changes to its Maps app. Updated maps now feature 3D visuals, multitasking guidance, and the ability to check public transport fares.

The developers have also improved the capabilities of CarPlay with iOS 16 now supporting multiple screens. Users will also be able to check various parameters such as remaining fuel, speed and vehicle temperature on the dashboard.

Apple pass keys

With PassKeys, iOS 16 users will allow users to log into websites without a password. All existing passwords will be replaced with a new password that is stored on the device itself and is end-to-end encrypted and synced across all of your devices signed in to iCloud.

Keep in mind that using an Apple Passkey will require two-factor authentication to be enabled.

Other access updates

Another useful addition is the lock screen music player widget that works similarly to the lock screen music player controls on Android phones. With the new Mail app, you will be able to schedule emails in advance with the app which now automatically detects key missing items such as email attachments.

iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max users may also get an astrology mode, satellite connectivity, and two options for how the notch looks and works among many other things.
