The state of abortion rights was upended by the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade.
With the end of nearly 50 years of federal protections for abortion, more than six states have scrambled to ban the procedure entirely, while others have imposed new restrictions. As of September 23, more than a dozen states have banned abortions.
The ban has sparked a wave of legal challenges in several states, including Louisiana, where litigation has halted enforcement.
NBC News tracks the status of statewide abortion laws and restrictions across the country, as well as exceptions in places where the bans apply. This map will be updated periodically.
